Larger vehicles, such as full-size sedans, have a larger front end and require a higher number of stars to cover proper space. For example, we recommend an average of 150 – 350 stars for an average two-door coupe, whereas a full-size SUV might claim between 600 – 1500 stars depending on size. The power of the lamp motor: The light motor is the power source of the Starlight headliners. It has a bright LED that shines through an optical fiber to display on your header. Some light motors may also have a “sparkle motor” with a perforated metal disc that rotates to block the light array, creating a “flicker” effect towards the end of the fiber. The output power of the light source can be increased from 6 watts (W) to 50W.
To determine the right power source for your vehicle. The output is linked to the amount of light needed to properly fill the header. A higher power source is required for more light to ensure that the lights are bright enough to create the correct starlight experience. There is not enough electricity and almost no lights to be seen! A 6W power source might be good for about 150-200 lights, but higher wattage is required for things to work.
